December Jogging Log

Jogging With January fast approaching I have decided to maintain an exact log of the miles I run on a daily basis. I really do have the desire to be able to run as many miles as I used to in what I refer to as my glory days when each day I would run 10k on a daily basis. Now I have to admit that I was able to maintain such a healthy life during a time when all I had to do was work and get fit, where as now I have work, college, a family (ferrets and dog), etc, etc to keep me busy. But the fact remains that being fit and healthy should be my number one priority in order to ensure that I am able to accomplish all those other demands that come from living this hectic life.

The first mini goal that I set for myself was to run 1 mile every day. I committed to this about a month ago and found it extremely hard to do this every morning as I was just too lazy to get my butt out of bed. Maybe it had less to do with laziness and more to do with the fact that I always felt exhausted. Anyways, I decided to do whatever I could which usually meant getting two to three early morning runs in a week and rather than beating myself up for failing to run every day, I gave myself a pat on the back for running when I did. This made a huge difference to my overall mental state and even running just 3 times a week inspired me to want to run more.

Now, I am happy to report that for the last 7 days I have awoken early to hit the treadmill and although initially only running 1 mile, I have now increased that to 2 miles. The next goal I have set for myself is to run 5 miles per day and continue until I am running 10 miles per day.

So I have thus committed to a fit life and will definitely achieve the goals I have set for myself; one of which is to run a marathon in the not-to-distant future. I think this act alone has the potential to inspire me to cover many more miles...lets see.

Pump those weights!

Weights So after talking about it for months I finally got back into the weight room. I used to work out with a trainer and I really noticed how weak I felt after I stopped training with her. Hey, don't get me wrong I did keep up the routine for awhile but then the amount of weight work I did dwindled down to zero , and my muscle tone  slipped away to nothing...

So I spent just under an hour working with various weight machines, mainly concentrating on my chest and shoulders for today. It was actually depressing seeing how many pounds I used to be able to handle and now starting from scratch again. But I did feel great working my body hard - for a change.

After my weight session I did an hour of cardio. I would usually hit the treadmill or the cycles as these are both my favorite pieces of cardio equipment BUT not this day. Today I was feeling adventurous and ready to take on anything, even a Nautilus Treadclimber. I don't know if you know what they are as I didn't until this morning. It is basically a treadmill but the tread is split into 2 sections so each leg is walking on and individual incline. Very different but one hell of a workout. I had worked up a sweat in just 30 minutes.

After my heavy workout I arrived home and made a salad with lettuce, tomatoe,  cucumber, sliced almonds, croutons and a low fat dressing. Yummy and low in calories - what a perfect combination!

You go girl!

Running_3I did it! I started to move again!

Yesterday for some bizarre reason I was extremely exhausted. I often feel tired but this was different. All I could think of doing after arriving home from work was putting my feet up and vegging out to some entertaining television. But did I do that? No.

I put on my running shoes and went running with our dog, Zoe. She is an energetic pit bull who will not listen to any excuses. Don't get me wrong I am not saying that I rarely exercise our dog. She is an active dog who needs at least an hour and a half of exercise per day. There is absolutely no way that we would get any peace at all in our house if she didn't use up some of her endless supply of energy. So the times I can't be bothered moving I usually get Joel to take her for a run. He is much fitter than me so I justify it by telling myself she will get a better work out while I sit at home. But not yesterday. We ran for an hour and I felt excellent. We arrived home to me feeling happy about doing something and Zoe revved up for more action.
