Can you believe that another quarter is now over? I can't. Seriously, where does all the time go? This quarter I decided that I needed to get my butt into gear and take two classes per quarter instead on just the one. It was tough with full time work but I managed, as many people do.
This time I did a women's study class titled, "Gender, Violence & Social Change" which I found slightly disturbing due to the content - rape, sexual harassment, incest, and pornography/prostitution - but nothing that I couldn't handle, and didn't thoroughly enjoy. I came away feeling much more informed, and ready to take on the world and the constant stream of gender violence that surrounds us. This class is not quite over yet, but will be by Wednesday midnight when I email my final essay. Did I add that this was an online course? I totally loved the freedom that learning online gave me, though I think they may be more difficult than a campus class in some regards due to the fact that we you are quizzed weekly to make sure that you are doing all the required reading. I think because of the subject matter people were more willing to be open about their own experiences with rape, incest & sexual harassment. Plus there was the added bonus of not having to waste time commuting to class twice a week. So I will definitely be doing more online classes. I also decided to take on an extra credit assigment though I don't know what I was thinking as I was already getting swamped with work....we'll see if it pays off?
The other class I decided to do was an Art class, drawing to be more precise. We used such mediums as ink, charcoal, conte crayons, ink wash & linocut. As much as many people are under the assumption that art classes are easy, I would now have to dispute that theory, which may explain why the classes started with 27 students and only 7 made it through to the end! It was tough, and the homework assignments were demanding, but I worked hard and managed to earn top scores on all three of my final projects. I picked up my portfolio on Saturday and was greeted with a cool 4.0 grade, and scored 104 due to some extra work I completed.
So I am back - only for 2 weeks - but I am back so I can start writing again.
Though most of my social life has been on hold for three months Joel and I have managed to see some great bands such as Sisters of Mercy, Sia, Bif Naked & Les Claypool/Rasputina, which I am in the process of writing about in Turn up the Volume!
